Barbour Bedale Size & Fit Guide

Use this guide to compare traditional Barbour Bedale wax jackets with a jacket you already find comfortable. The reference chart below is based on Allweathers' Classic Bedale Olive chart (MWX0010OL71); the same figures were supplied for their Rustic listing. These are third-party reference measurements, not measurements taken or independently verified by Red Rae.

Do not assume the chart applies to every Bedale version or production run. It does not cover the Bedale Wax Parka, Winter Bedale Waterproof or other modern interpretations. Contact us before ordering if you need confirmation for a particular colour, model or size.

How to measure a jacket for comparison

Fasten a jacket that fits you comfortably and lay it flat without stretching the fabric. Use the same measuring points as the chart:

  • Chest width: measure straight across from armpit to armpit.
  • Back length: measure from the base of the collar down the centre back to the bottom hem, excluding the collar.
  • Sleeve length: measure from the armpit to the end of the cuff along the underarm seam. Do not compare this with a shoulder-to-cuff measurement.

Compare like-for-like garment measurements. Do not use your body chest measurement directly against the flat chest-width column.

How does the traditional Bedale fit?

The traditional Bedale has a relaxed fit, shorter length and rear vents, reflecting its original riding design. Expect a roomier silhouette rather than a close-fitting, tailored shape. Consider the layers you plan to wear underneath; do not automatically size down just because it is relaxed fitting.

Adding a liner

Compatible traditional Bedale jackets can take optional zip-in liners. Check the exact jacket and liner compatibility, and allow for the extra layer when choosing your fit. A liner is not necessarily included.

Need help choosing?

Contact Red Rae with the jacket colour or model code, the size you are considering and the layers you plan to wear. Ask us to check the relevant garment measurements if fit is critical. Sizes outside 32–48 are not covered by this reference chart.
